Dear Friends,
Very happy to announce that my first book on Amazon has been published. All thanksgiving and praise be to God.
Its a book of Sufi Poetry and titled: "From Green Tree Fire"
I am grateful to Naomi F. Stone and Brian de Riancho for their generous Editing.
About the Book
Historically, the Sufi Path inspired great poetry and songs dedicated to God. The most subject matter of Sufi poetry and songs revolves around God as the Divine Beloved who is Intimately Immanent. In this collection of poetry by Sadiq M Alam, all reference of beloved, whether with a capital B or not, refers to God the Most Beloved, the Creator Lord, the Most High. In essence the poems in this book are love poems of, to, and for God.This poetry draws inspirations from the Author's study and learning from contemporary Sufi masters while living near and even with them as well as from the study of Sufi literature, poetry, and music across various cultures. Some of this poetry came as a response to an overwhelming appreciation in sync with Sufi teachings and sometimes as a free-style translation of songs.
The intention and prayer of the Author in publishing this work is that may these poems act as a medium of remembrance of God for the readers. We remember who we love. Remembrance is a logical consequence of love. Thus in Sufi Path remembrance and prayer are synonymous. Indeed the remembrance of God is a lofty goal and in remembrance of God, human hearts find true tranquility and holy peace.
Here is a Poem from the Book
Come to Me with that which I have not
Answering to the call of the devotee,
the Beloved One whispers in his heart:
"Come to Me with that which I have not"
Searching all over,
in fiery deserts, cold mountains,
in dark forests, wide cities or in sleepy villages,
to scholars and to laymen alike
the devotee finds nothing that God has not.
The agony of vain searching knows no bounds.
until one day bursting forth like a thousand suns,
the truth manifests.
"Come with the poverty of your heart.
Empty your heart so that only
and only the Beloved remains
and may take His seat forever on the Heart Throne.
Know O devotee:
it is only poverty that God has not.
So come with a pure soul, washed in its poverty,
as one who has nothing
and who wants nothing
but the Beloved alone."

Reviews
A moving and beautiful book of poetry written to God as a Beloved! The poems are heartfelt and flow from the author's openly expressed love of God. I was deeply touched by Sadiq's spontaneous sharing. He has long written a blog dedicated to those who seek a relationship with God and have their own journeys surrendering to a divine path in their own lives. His book grows from that inner fire that burns with love! It is a beautiful and humbly offered tribute to the power of God in his own life.

"Part of what I love about your blog is your poems. I know I have commented before, but they are so very wonderful. I love their simplicity and truth. I also love that you speak of poetry, and Sufi poetry, often. This gladdens my heart, because it is the sharing of Love. Thank you for that."
