Those who are certain about the unseen world, the esoteric dimensions of things and the reality which is beyond common perception, acknowledges that what we are engaged with, what we watch, see, hear has an impact on the subtle body. It is a common knowledge that what man experience through the outer senses and also with the mind, create another reality within, in the subtle body as well.
The outer world, the outer body and the inner world, inner body are connected and they impact each other. If we take deep emotion such as shocking news as an example of the input from outer world which surges some emotion within, in the inner world and it impacts both the subtle centers and also can cause an heart attack. Hearing a very grave news about loved ones or hearing about something very sad and a person just drop dead due to massive cardiac arrest or heart attack can be an example of what has just been described.
We know that children love to imitate. At very early age this is an inbuilt mechanism through which a child learn. This phenomena is very strong in early age and gradually diminish but never cease to exist. Hence we continue to learn new things, unconsciously we follow new trends and grow new habit all along our life.
Using the knowledge of how human minds work there are people in the world who are constantly devising new techniques and technologies that hijack our heart, manipulate our emotions and occupy our heart with garbage. In this age and time it is high time that we educate ourselves against these, be vigilant against anything that occupy and damage one of the most precious centers in human body, which is heart.
The heart is our deepest knowing. Sometimes that deepest knowing is veiled, or confused by more superficial levels of the mind: by opinions, by desires, by social conditioning, and most of all by fear. Like a mirror it may become obscured the veils of conditioned thought, by the soot of emotions, by the corrosion of negative attitudes. In fact we easily confuse the ego with the heart. Sometimes, in the name of following our hearts, we actually follow the desires and fears of the ego.
The heart may be sensitive or insensitive, awake or asleep, healthy or sick, whole or broken, open or closed. In other words, its perceptive ability will depend on its capacity and condition.
Both spirit and the world compete to win the prize of the human heart. As Junayd said, “The heart of the friend of God is the site of God’s mystery, and God does not reveal his mysteries in the heart of one who is preoccupied with the world.” The traditional teachers agree that one of the consequences of preoccupation with the world is the death of the heart. If the heart assumes the qualities of whatever attracts it, its attraction to the dense matter of the world only results at best in a limited reflection of the divine reality. At worst, the heart’s involvement with the purely physical aspects of existence results in the familiar compulsions of ego: sex, wealth, and power. ~ Kabir Helminski
There is no spiritual and religious path that does not give major importance on heart, the spiritual heart, the emotional heart and the physical heart. Heart is seen as the seat of consciousness and also emotion in many many traditions.
Most religious tradition that has knowledge that descends from the Unseen world acknowledge the continuation of life after death, that is afterlife. In the cosmology of the afterlife, again the heart occupy a very central theme. For example in the Final Testament or the Qur'an it is transmitted that on the Day of Judgement those who arrive with a sound and pure heart, it is they who will be successful.
Also in the worldly conduct a person is considered a righteous person if he or she have a pure heart, a heart free from malice, envy, hatred, jealousy, stinginess - rather a heart filled with mercy, love, compassion, kindness and generosity.

One of the major tool that is being used very effectively for the last 30 years or so is mass media, specially newspaper and television. The history of mass media goes before that time period of course, but its chilling effect to dumb down people and the level of corruption behind the ownership of these mass media has increased so alarmingly over about three decades. Prior to that many ideological and well intentioned people did run newspaper and mass media but very recently this has all changed. It is the corporations and elite agenda driven psychopaths who are now in charge of most medias. It is only a few connected to the top, from the 1% is who owns most of the media around the world, almost with no exceptions. And the commercial competition has also made this sector very toxic where news are manufactured by the profiteers with direct agenda that keep the mass in ignorance or in deception.
One of the prerequisite for people, specially those who have natural inclination to belief, faith and who are trusting is to educate themselves about the deceptive nature of mass media in present time. Towards that purpose this following award winning documentary is very helpful. Its called "The Century of the Self" by Adam Curtis. It focuses on how the work of top psychologists like Sigmund Freud, Anna Freud, and Edward Bernays influenced the way corporations and governments have analyzed, dealt with, and controlled people.
The business and political world uses psychological techniques to read, create and fulfill the desires of the public, to make their products or speeches as pleasing as possible to consumers and citizens. Curtis raises the question of the intentions and roots of this fact. Where once the political process was about engaging people's rational, conscious minds, as well as facilitating their needs as a society, the documentary shows how by employing the tactics of psychoanalysis, politicians appeal to irrational, primitive impulses that have little apparent bearing on issues outside of the narrow self-interest of a consumer population.

Also another highly recommended documentary is The Four Horsemen. It is a 2012 British film pamphlet directed by Ross Ashcroft. The film criticises the system of fractional reserve banking, debt-based economy and political lobbying by banks, which it regards as a serious threat to Western civilisation. It criticises the War on Terror, which it maintains is not fought to eliminate al-Qaeda and other militant organizations, but to create larger debt to the banks. As an alternative, the film promotes a return to classical economics and the gold standard.

It will certainly help you understand who and what controls / manipulates and continue to deceive the mass people and it will also help you perhaps to avoid stupid behavior such as consuming more only to hoard, feeding the want button and the likes of voting to bogus and corrupt politicians that the system encourage you to do. Fractional reserve banking will perhaps open your eyes how current banking and monetary system is a fraud and the most important contributor to economic oppression and manufacturer of poverty. Then perhaps you will never feel encourage to lock your money to FDR for long term to bank or will avoid interest based banking at all cost.

Facebook is a very interesting phenomena in our modern world and if you want to safe guard your heart and to preserve it, you better not be an addict of Facebook. Its best to understand what it is, its addictive effect and also to know that the investors and stake holders of Facebook (the state intelligence agencies around the world) use it for mind control as well.
Like PsyOps (Psychological Operations) these are the technologies that is driven by profit, mind control, surveillance, gathering of opinion and emotional manipulation. From spiritual perspective it is the spiritual heart from where various emotions arise (it doesn't matter if some of these mechanism are correlated with certain chemicals in the brain, because thats not the end all, know all) and hence when technologies like Facebook uses emotional manipulation, it is you and I who are damaged.
There are many things that goes on and only a small fraction as tip of the iceberg get attention in public domain. One of such study that got published in public domain was how Facebook experiments with user's emotions.
Facebook conducted a psychological experiment on its users by manipulating their emotions without their knowledge, a new study reveals.
Researchers toyed with the feelings of 689,003 randomly selected English-speaking Facebook users by changing the contents of their news feed, according to a paper published in the June edition of the journal 'Proceedings of the National Academy of Scientists' (PNAS).
During a week-long period in January 2012, researchers staged two parallel experiments, reducing the number of positive or negative updates in each user's news feed.
"When positive expressions were reduced, people produced fewer positive posts and more negative posts; when negative expressions were reduced, the opposite pattern occurred. These results indicate that emotions expressed by others on Facebook influence our own emotions, constituting experimental evidence for massive-scale contagion via social networks," said the authors of the paper, who include researchers from Facebook, Cornell University, and the University of California.
“We also observed a withdrawal effect: People who were exposed to fewer emotional posts (of either valence) in their News Feed were less expressive overall on the following days.”
The researchers indicated that the successful study is the first to find that moods expressed via social networks influence the emotions of others.
“These results suggest that the emotions expressed by friends, via online social networks, influence our own moods, constituting, to our knowledge, the first experimental evidence for massive-scale emotional contagion via social networks, and providing support for previously contested claims that emotions spread via contagion through a network.”
What kind of emotion do they toy us with?
Here is an example of the manufactured viral videos that manipulate emotions and it is social media channel like Facebook is used to make them viral, use people's emotion and help establish certain agenda. And more Fake News on Refugee Crisis
In Islamic spirituality, anything that is 'other than God' is a veil. Anything that reminds us of God is a 'Sign of God'. As long as we keep the otherness from polluting our heart, we are helping to preserve the most precious part of ourselves, our spiritual heart.
So lets be aware of such technologies that contaminate your heart. May G-d preserve the sanctity of our hearts, may our heart remain as the seat of the King of kings, may our heart remain pure and holy - free from all lies and garbage.
Know O Beloved! Only in the Remembrance of G-d, the hearts find rest, peace and tranquility. ~ Message of the Qur'an
