16th November is my birthday. I was born on a Friday morning back in the winter of 1979, which corresponds to 26th Dhul Hijjah (the month of sacred pilgrimage or Hajj) of the Hijri Calendar of 1399 A.H.. Birthday is the day when we are given access to the sacred portal of our life. The Last Prophet when he was asked why he preferred to often observe fast on Mondays, he is known to have replied, 'because Monday is the day when I was born into this world.' The Last Testament speaks of the days of birth for John (Yahya) and Jesus (Isa) as blessed days. Birthday is an occasion to remember the blessing of life, the day of coming into existence - as gifted by the Giver of Life, the Source of Life, al-Hayy.
Thank you for your prayerful wishes and your blessings, all your love for this occasion in my life.
Though we all are needy (fuqara) in front of God, the Most Generous One by His unbound generosity has enriched us with infinite ways, in ways that if we were to count all the blessings we could not enumerate them. Fabi ayyi ala-i Rabbikuma tukazziban. "And which bounty of your Lord will you deny?" asks the Quran. And we acknowledge and are grateful for every single Divine blessings in our life.
God has blessed us with so much and more, a reason being, so that we may contribute towards those who are less fortunate than us. In His Infinite wisdom He has given excess to some of us as a trial whether we express our gratitude and act as true human beings towards those who have less or we become self-absorbed ungrateful who lack mercy and compassion towards others. And those who show mercy to those on the earth may genuinely hope to receive divine mercy from the One Who is in Heaven, for such is the glad tiding and promise of reciprocity.
Personally God has blessed me with more things and opportunities that what I can ask for. Thus on this eve of my insignificant Birthday I have no personal need that remains to be unfilled and I can only be grateful to the Most High for blessing me without being anything worthy or qualified for such amazing grace. But I have this intention to take this day as an opportunity to be able to help others and to contribute towards betterment of those less fortunate around me.
As you may know that for last few years now I have been engaged in few activities under the umbrella of Porshee Foundation. The philosophy of Porshee Foundation (the word "Porshee" means "neighbor") is to help those who are near-by and if enough people cared for those near them, for needy neighbors, we could radically reduce suffering for the less fortunate ones even utilizing our local resources and charity.
This Birthday I am putting out this notice to all my well wishers who would like to wish me Happy Birthday to contribute to the Porshee Foundation Fund. This is my humble pledge for my Birthday and I pray that may God fulfill your desire and accept your gift on behalf of those less fortunate ones to whom these contributions will make a difference.
Any amount is accepted and these gifts of love will enable Porshee Foundation to continue its work such as providing emergency medical support to the most needy, to distribute winter clothes to homeless, to feed the hungry, to provide informal education to street kids, to provide interest free loans and one time capital to nano-entrepreneurs to help them come out of vicious cycle of poverty. Along with this we are also engaged in providing sewing machine to orphans adult girls and widows, to buy education material for poor students etc. In future, by God's help we wish to engage our work into sustainable earning projects which will feed back into Porshee Foundation to sustain its growth.
Since winter is here, some of the contribution you may make here will go directly to the Project called Spreading the Warmth where we buy blankets and winter clothing and to out to distribute at night to those who sleep in the streets.
I would also ask your help to reach out others who might be looking to give charity. If you know just 10 people who would donate $10 each to good cause, then you can help contribute to $100. You would be happy to know that this $100 can do amazing things around the world: it can provide clean water for 5 families in Africa, it can rescue a girl from slavery in Nepal, and here in Bangladesh where I live, it can feed 195 whole meals to poor or provide blankets to homeless people during winter for more than 30 people at the street who would otherwise have no warm clothings or it can provide capital to one nano-entrepreneurs to start their own business and hence freeing not only him but a whole family come out of the slavery of extreme poverty.
