Silent Darshan of Mother Meera

Eyes of Mother Meera1.
Being in the presence of a realized human being is emphasized in many spiritual paths. "Sitting at the feet of a master" is seen very auspicious in Indian and eastern spiritual tradition. The sufis talks about the value of the glance of the teacher and the grace that flows through it. In almost all religious / spiritual path traditionally the highest teachings are always transmitted via direct presence. In sufism its called heart to heart transmission.

In east, particularly in ancient india, realized human beings are seen as one who embodies and reflect the divine light. Thus it is through the realized ones, the perfected masters, a tangible glimpse to the divine is obtained. Darshan is the term used to glimpse the divine light in a human being who could be anyone (since all human beings are made in the image of Divine), but more commonly from an enlightened master or teacher. Darshan means vision or seeing the Divine. It is the experience of receiving a vision, blessing, or feeling of a Divine presence through meditation, prayer, deep aspiration, or simply by sudden grace. With complete surrender and becoming total servant of Divine, fully God's instrument, the glance of a master represent the glance of Divine.

Sufi Poet Yunus Emre wrote so eloquently:

A nightingale falls in love with the Rose.
The whole love affair begins
with just one look from God.

Mother Meera Portrait via WikipediaMother Meera, born (26 December, 1960) Kamala Reddy is a contemporary spiritual teacher who is seen by many as embodiment (avatar) of the Divine Mother (Shakti).

Born in a small village of Andhra Pradesh, India, she had her first Samadhi, a state of complete spiritual absorption, unity consciousness (realization of Tawheed), at the age of six, which lasted for a whole day. When she was 12 her uncle Bulgur Venkat Reddy met her for the first time, and immediately recognized in her the girl of his visions. He became convinced that she is a manifestation of Divine Mother and started to take care of her, allowing her to unfold her inner experiences. She started to give darshan at Sri Aurobindo Ashram, India where she came in 1972. Later in 1981 she moved to Germany and currently she lives at Schloss Schaumburg in Balduinstein, a small town in Germany and travels to other parts of the world, primarily USA and Canada to give darshan and blessings.

Mother Meera receives thousands of visitors of all religions for darshan which she conducts in total silence. Her darshan consists of a ritual, where she will touch a persons head, and then look into their eyes. During this process, she reportedly 'unties knots' in the persons subtle system and permeates them with light.

She says regarding the silent darshan:
. People want lectures; I give them silence.
. The power of the Divine works in the silence. Visions come and go. The silence remains. The silence brings continual connection, continual presence.

Explaining about the process and dynamics of Darshan, she answers question using metaphysical metaphor, as quoted from the Book, ANSWERS, Part I:

What is a Darshan?

Mother Meera: 'On the back of the human being .. two lines start from the toes, rise along the legs, join at the base of the spine and then become a single line reaching the top of the head. This line is thinner than a hair and has some knots in it here and there which divine personalities help to undo. It is very delicate work and great care has to be taken to undo the knots, as there is danger for your life if the thread is broken.

I am also removing other kinds of obstacles to your sadhana (spiritual practice and self-discipline). When I touch your head, the Light moves upwards in the white line. It indicates, like a meter, the development of our sadhana. When there is no progress, the Light moves downwards along the line, showing the degree to which your sadhana has deteriorated. When the Light is continuous from the toes to the top of the head, the person may have many experiences and visions, although some people have visions and experiences without this white line. When the line gets to the top of the head, people have the Paramatman darshan (Godly visions). When the line has gone above the head, then there is a constant relation with Paramatman (Absolute Soul).

In the front of the body are two red lines starting from the toes, growing gradually upwards on either side of the legs and tending to meet at the base of the spine where the white lines become a single one. If the red lines reach the white line, you will achieve absolute detachment. This rarely happens and only those who have the Divine Shakti.

By the growth of the white and red lines, the sadhana will be established permanently without possibility of a fall. If the red lines develop fully, you will reach great heights. The white lines will also help to support the experiences of those who have a psychic opening. Even when there is a psychic opening there is still the possibility that it will close. The opening of the psychic is effective for sadhana, but it is not enough. The establishment of the white and red lines will help you to keep the psychic continually open. If the psychic can be compared to a flower, the lines are the plant itself.'

About her looking into the eyes she says: 'I am looking into every corner of your being. I am looking at everything within you to see where I can help, where I can give healing and power. At the same time, I am giving Light to every part of your being, I am opening every part of yourself to Light. When you are open you will feel and see this clearly.'

Yesterday, 8th Sept I was given the opportunity to have darshan with Mother Meera at Arvada, Colorado. The whole process was very interesting to witness as we all sat there in silence and people waited to receive darshan. While people sat before and after receiving the darshan, it was recommended to meditate and pray for Divine Help. Since it was about Seeing, Receiving Vision, I did the sufi practice of meditating on the Divine Quality and the particular Attribute of Divine that came to me is Al-Basir: The All Seeing, The One Alone Who is Seeing. I wrote about the meditation seed in earlier post called: Divine is the All Seeing.

Reversing space, another sufi meditation where its concentrated upon the realization that instead of we looking, we are being looked / seen.

While she gives her darshan silently to each individual, I noticed her head nods very subtly, as if she is communicating to the spirit. From the time she came and took her sit at the stage till the time she left, she never look up or glanced at the visitors as a whole. Only when each individual reach her, she bless holding the forehead / head for about 40 seconds, then look directly into their eyes for about 40 seconds or more then looks down again. I was noticing that she doesn't want to dissipate her energy of glance by randomly looking at the audience casually but withdraw herself completely looking downwards.

In metaphysics the preservation of our psychic energy is greatly emphasized and to me it appeared Mother Meera does that very diligently. Other than darshan, she won't even look at anyone during the whole process. That was a teaching for me. I also was touched by those who came to visit her. Many in their quite old body, some have physical challenges, yet their aspirations are great to observe. To my rough estimation, there were about 400 people who came to the darshan and one after another, without break Mother Meera gave darshan to all, uninterruptedly.

Mother Meera will be travelling other places across US and Canada to give Darshan. Here is Mother Meera's Itenary in 2008.

. 'Do the practice for the sake of the Divine, not for the sake of liberation.'
. 'The visions that come from the Divine change you. A real vision brings adoration of the Divine, and in that adoration there can be no vanity.'
