The Monthly Aspectarian: Dr. Jaffe, I'd like to start out by asking you to give a thumbnail description of your background.
Ibrahim Jaffe: I'm a Medical Doctor who in 1986 went blind. I had picked up a virus when I wrestled for the Illini at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and it caused me to lose my sight. After treating with the common anti-virals and doing all the things that the physicians teach today, I was unable to get well. The medical profession basically washed its hands of me.
TMA: Were you already involved in holistic medicine at that time?
IJ: I already had some interest in holistic medicine and had spent some time meditating, but really had no background in them at that point. I spoke with some friends and they suggested acupuncture and homeopathy and none of that really worked. Then somebody suggested I go up to a yoga retreat and try some of their programs, which also didn't work.
So after about six months of the disease, which was progressively getting worse and I was in a lot of pain, I realized that nobody was going to heal this for me. I went into a room, sat there and started to meditate with the belief that somewhere within me was the power to heal. For about three months I sat in that room and meditated every day. I visualized and did everything I could think of without a lot of success until one day I gave up. I got angry and couldn't deal with it anymore. I started to scream and yell and shout and as I did that, something remarkable happened. There was a flickering of light, a spinning and a sound and all of a sudden it was like a flow of energy opened inside of me and the light burst through the eye. For the first time in six months, I could see.
(...) Divine love is the replacement. There are two factors that we're working with. There's the creation of disease and the transformation of that disease. The creation of disease is always due to repressed feelings, wounds and psychological pictures that we hold in our unconscious mind. It's the transformation of those pictures and wounds that cause healing. If we just move the energy, very often people will heal. But if they heal without returning to the divine love, it's like they've healed part of the disease but they haven't brought it back to into its complete nature.
TMA: Somewhere along the way you fell in with the Sufis?
IJ: Exactly. A Sufi teacher, Sidi Muhammad al-Jamal, [the current head of Shadhiliyya as well as the head of the High Sufi Counsel in Jerusalem] showed me the problems with the healing I had been doing [for others] up to that point. I say "problems" -- the healing was good, we had probably 10,000 cures. But he said to me, "You're working in an incomplete way. You're moving the energy but you're not changing the person deeply enough. You've changed the outside so the healing happened, but you haven't changed the inside."
I said, "What does that mean?" He said, "Well, if you change the body and you don't change the heart and the soul, how have you really healed the person?"
I said, "Doesn't healing the wounds, the emotions and the mind change them?" He said, "This is not enough. You've got to go past the mind and the emotions to changing the heart."

[*] About | Dr. Ibrahim Jaffe, M.D. is the founder of the School of Energy Mastery and Energy Mastery Seminars. He is the head of the American Shadhiliyya Sufi Order and is a practicing physician, holistic doctor, and clairvoyant healer. He studied medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago and has practiced medicine in Hawaii and Arizona. He is also licensed by the Arizona Homeopathic Medical Board as a Homeopathic Medical doctor and has studied both classical and electrodiagnostic homeopathy.
After being stricken with a severe eye ailment and nearly losing his sight, he did intensive research on how emotional and psychological issues alter the human energy field and cause disease. Through this research he was able to regain his sight and develop the system of Advanced Energy Healing. Later, as his clairvoyant vision opened naturally, he developed the Awareness Release Technique, a spiritual and energetic approach to healing which has become the foundation of his School of Energy Mastery.
In 1994 Dr. Jaffe met Sidi Muhammad al-Jamal, the Qutb and current head of the Shadhiliyya, as well as the head of the Higher Sufi Counsel in Jerusalem and the holy places. Dr. Jaffe recognized Sidi as his teacher and surrendered to the path of love. In 1997 Sidi conferred upon Dr. Jaffe the title of Muqaddam and asked him to lead the American Shadhiliyya Order. Since this time, Dr. Jaffe has purchased land in northern California where he is building a holy healing community based on the principles of love and the energetic understandings of disease.
