There’s a story of the Buddha after he was enlightened. He was walking down a path and he was completely glowing. He was shining. He was effulgent. He was “munawwara”.
A man came up to him and was so taken by the light, he asked, “Are you a celestial being, or a god”? He answered, “No”. And then he said, “Well, then you must be a magician”. “No”.
“Are you a man”? “No”.
“What are you”?
“I am awake. I am pure light.”
It’s this light, this “nouri Muhammad”, that we begin to show through ourselves by adhering to the Five Pillars of Islam, performing dhikrullah (remembrace of God, the Most High), invoking the Name of Allah continuously.

The primordal perfect light that manifested in the heart of Prophet Muhammad, termed as Nur Muhammad is the very same light that manifested in other great teachers of humanity - Abraham, Moses, Krishna, Buddha, Christ and so many. This light is from the same Source: the Light of Light, God Himself - manifesting with different level of reality in different personalities.
In Islamic cosmology, Prophet's Light or Nur Muhammad was the first thing that God made manifest from His own Light and deposited in the being of the Prophet. God said: "Let there be light!" And there was light (Genesis 1:3). God, speaking through His Prophet, says: ‘I have created the light of Muhammad from the light of My own existence’. May God's mercy, peace and blessings be upon the Prophet.
